My style bible

My goal is to have a timeless style, investing in pieces that make sense, and adding in some fun and affordable trending pieces. Also, this isn't an exhaustive list, it's a way to get you thinking about your own style and building your wardrobe in a thoughtful cohesive way.

So if you are in need of some inspiration then let's dig in.

Style Basics

The best way to begin building your personal style is to think about what you are doing in your day to day life and what you feel truly comfortable in. For example, I only wear heels on SUPER special occassions, so a closet full of heels wouldn't really be practical for my daily activities.

Next, comfort is key for me. You will never catch me in too tight jeans, or a top that makes me question raising my arms for fear of it falling down.

My last style basic is to know what colors you are drawn to and enjoy wearing. I naturally gravitate to neutral colors (black, grey, navy, tan, and white). For awhile while shopping I would find a top and want to choose the neutral but I would buy it in a random color just because it was a color that wasn't currently in my closet, and ya know what? I would never wear it, because it didn't fit with the rest of my closet.

Now that we've covered the basics and you're hopefully thinking of what your basics are, let's jump into what I consider my investment pieces.

Investment Pieces

Since I know that I'm looking for comfortable, timeless, and neutral pieces I know that I need the following:

-Quality dark wash skinny jeans
-Quality distressed denim in a light wash
-Leather jacket in black or camel color
-Black tennis shoes
-Leather booties with a low heel
-Leather purse in a classic style w/minimal hardware
-Tote style bag
-Leather sandals (an essential item for a Floridian)

Style Essentials

-Tee's in white, grey, and black
-Patterned tee's (camo and black and white stripes)
-Utility jacket in tan or camo
-Casual sneaker (think Converse's)
-T-Shirt dresses

Trendy add-ons

This is where you can add in some trendier pieces, like:

-Off the shoulder top or dress
-Palazzo pants
-Bell sleeve tops
-High waisted shorts

Note: Trendier pieces are what's usually found at Target/Old Navy etc. where the style may or may not be popular next season so don't invest a ton of money on these pieces! I usually spend less than $100.

So now you're probably thinking well that's great, but what kind of outfits can I make with these pieces?! Don't worry I've got you covered there as well.
