5 self care tips for busy moms
As a mama it can be really hard to find the time to take care of yourself, so here are my 5 self care tips for busy moms!
Grab a magazine
This is my top tip for sneaking in self care no matter where you are. Keep a stock of your favorite magazines around your house (living room, kitchen, bedroom). Next time you're whipping up that toast your kid is never going to eat you can flip through a magazine, and take the two minutes to catch up on the latest trends/foods/celeb gossip.
Listen to podcasts or audiobooks
I just recently got really into podcasts, and now I'm kind of obsessed. I listen to them while I'm doing the dishes, when I'm picking up the house at night after my kids go to bed, or while I'm driving. I love that I can listen while I'm doing things that I'd be doing anyway. My favorite podcasts at the moment are Goal Digger by Jenna Kutcher and Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. It is impossible to listen to those and not end up feeling super motivated and ready to tackle life in general!
Be still
It is so tempting to constantly be moving and doing, but just take the time to be still when you can. I'm guilty of spending my kid's naptime cleaning like a mad woman, or standing at the counter while trying to eat lunch. Now, I'm making an active effort to sit down when I can throughout the day. I make myself some iced coffee, turn on a movie for my older kids, and do something I want to do (like working on my blog!) My kids love their movie time and I love the down time during the day!
Channel your pre kid self
This tip may not work for you depending on what your hobbies were pre kid but for me my hobby was beauty products. My bathroom counter used to be filled with all sorts of different beauty products that I was trying and I was constantly on the lookout for more, so now I've been slowly getting back into it. It is so much fun for me to try out new products after my kids go to bed, and my skin is starting to look so much better now that I'm putting in some effort. So think about what you enjoyed before you had kids and find a way to start enjoying it again.
Pick your non-negotiable
Everyday there should be one part of your routine that is just for you that you can take your time and really enjoy. Try to schedule it when your spouse is home to help, or when your kids are at school or sleeping, that way you have no reason to put your non-negotiable time on the back burner. This could be your reading time, or your end of the night skincare routine, just make it anything that you truly want to make more time for and show up for yourself every. single. day.
